Benny Wenda is to be awarded the Honorary Freedom of the City at a special meeting of the Full Council to be held in Oxford Town Hall, at 5pm on 17 July. The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Craig Simmons said: “It is my great honour as Lord Mayor to both propose and award Honorary Freedom.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on West Papua was held in the UK Parliament on June 4, 2019. Chaired by Alex Sobel MP, the meeting heard a range of informative and thought-provoking speeches. The meeting was introduced by Benny Wenda, Chairman of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua, who relayed on-the-ground information he had received.
